Code of conduct

Celebrate our Pride while remaining respectful of all

Lausanne Pride is a space for celebration, activism and solidarity for everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community.

This charter explains the vital rules that allow everyone to feel safe and respected.

1. To whom does the Code of conduct apply?

All peoples present at Pride must follow the rules laid out in this charter, including but not limited to:

  • Participants
  • Volunteers
  • Artists
  • Service partners, vendors and contractors

2. Safety and support

If you are victim of or witness to inappropriate, violent or discriminatory conduct, or if you need help, don’t hesitate to react and immediately inform a member of staff:

  • Volunteers wearing an official t-shirt
  • Pride Angels
  • Security personnel

Multiple structures are available to insure the smooth operation of the event:

  • Information point
  • Prevention stands (alcohol, drugs, sexuality)
  • Drug checking stands
  • First aid stands

All situations will be handled confidentially and taken seriously

No one will be punished for asking for help.

During the march:

  • Keep a safe distance from others
  • Keep a safe distance form vehicles and floats
  • Do not run
  • Do not push
  • Listen to and respect indications given by staff and security

3. Respect and inclusion

Pride is open to everyone, no matter:

  • Your sexual orientation
  • Your gender or gender expression
  • Your age, origin, religious beliefs, handicap, appearance or social situation

To make sure everyone present feels ok:

  • Respect others’ names and pronouns
  • Respect the teams, volunteers, and artistes present
  • Leave spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility unobstructed and open

All forms of discrimination and harassment (racism, sexism, LGBTQIA+phobia, ableism, fatphobia, classism, agism, etc.) are not tolerated.

4. Solidarity and intersectionality

Lausanne Pride recognises that different forms of discrimination can combine, add to each other, and reinforce each other (sexual orientation, gender, origin, social class, handicap, etc.).

  • Listen to and respect marginalised people.
  • Show humility: do not appropriate others’ battles and leave space for people directly concerned.
  • Never minimise others’ experiences.

Pride is a space for support, not competitive activism. Any hierarchization of struggles is not tolerated.

5. Consent

Consent is obligatory for all interactions: speech, actions, physical contact, photos and videos.

It must be:

  • Freely given (without pressure)
  • Clear and understood
  • Enthusiastic
  • Able to be retracted at any point

If a person is under the influence of alcohol or other substances, they cannot give real consent.

Absence of refusal is never consent.

6. Health and well-being

Pride is a moment for celebration, but respect for one’s own and others’ bodies is essential.

  • Consume alcohol and other substances in a responsible manner.
  • Do not force or pressure anyone to consume alcohol or other substances
  • Water stations and calm zones are available
  • Ear protection is available at our bars
  • If someone is in danger or vulnerable, watch over them and ask for help

7. Care of equipment and premises

Pride is and event organised thanks to many people’s contributions. Premises and equipment are made available to allow the festivities to take place.

Please:

  • Be careful and respectful of the equipment (stages, stands, barriers, washrooms, decoration, etc.)
  • Do not break, damage or deteriorate the equipment.
  • Do not write on, draw on or affix (posters, stickers, …) to walls, floors and ground, furniture.
  • Respect public parcs and infrastructure
  • Notify a member of staff if problematic or dangerous situations arise.

All intentional degradation, vandalism, theft or improper use of the equipment is not tolerated and can lead to exclusion from the event or prosecution depending on the gravity of the infringement.

Respect the equipment and premises used allows Pride to exist today and in the future.

8. Respect for the environment

Lausanne pride is committed to respect the environment.

  • Garbage must be discarded in garbage bins or at designated waste sorting stations.
  • Avoid using single use products (plastic straws, flyers, …)
  • Use public transport or carpooling if possible.

9. Symbols and messaging

Pride is a space for political, cultural and activist expression. Symbols, slogans, placards and flags are welcome, as long as they remain respectful of people(s).

  • Hateful, violent and discriminatory massages are not allowed.
  • All commercial or political promotion/advertising must be approved by the organisation.

10. Sales and promotion

Pride is not a free marketplace.

Without authorisation from the organisation, the following is not allowed:

  • The sale of objects and/or services
  • Commercial promotion or advertising
  • Distribution of flyers or promotional objects
  • The sale of drinks (authorisation reserved only for official Pride bars for it’s funding)

11. Non-compliance with the rules and regulations

If the rules are not respected, the organization withholds the right to:

  • Issue a warning
  • Ask for messaging to be removed
  • Remove an individual in the interest of protecting others

✨ By respecting this chart, you’re helping make Lausanne Pride a safe, inclusive and supportive place for all.✨
